MobilityData Announces Eric Plosky as New Executive Director

After almost 25 years at the U.S. Department of Transportation, Eric Plosky will now lead the international non-profit organization.

Monday, January 23rd, 2023 – The MobilityData Board of Directors has selected Eric Plosky as the organization’s new Executive Director. Eric comes to us after almost 25 years of experience with the U.S. Department of Transportation, at the unique Volpe National Transportation Systems Center. He is very enthusiastic about the vision, mission, and potential of MobilityData, and is eager to bring new perspectives and leadership to the team.

“It’s a great privilege to join MobilityData,” Eric says. “I have seen the impact of their work in transit and shared mobility, and in the field of transportation more broadly. I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this team of exceptional people, as well as a contributor to this vibrant collaborative community, especially at this time of unprecedented opportunity.”

Extensive experience

For the past 12 years, Eric has worked as Chief of Transportation Planning at the Volpe Center. In this role, he built and led a diverse team of dozens, taking on some of the highest-priority and most challenging topics in transportation, within an innovative fee-for-service, project-based environment requiring technical acumen, entrepreneurial skill, and financial accountability. He and his teams have directly supported top leaders, such as Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and former Secretary Elaine Chao. He notably worked alongside former Secretary Anthony Foxx on the signature “Beyond Traffic” initiative. Eric holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also serves as an instructor within the Harvard Extension School’s sustainability master’s degree program.

“MobilityData is currently in a growing phase and Eric’s extensive background in transportation planning in the public sector, along with his experience leading divisions and teams, will help to further advance the mission of MobilityData. The Board of Directors is very excited about this new chapter for the organization,” says Elsa Bruyère, Chair of the Board of Directors of MobilityData.

Mission-driven leadership

Alongside the MobilityData team, Eric will provide strategic leadership addressing the sustainability of the organization and building on our collaborative, professional culture. He will work closely with the Board of Directors, team, and sponsors to build and continuously maintain a roadmap that advances MobilityData’s mission.

Eric will assume his new functions at the end of February 2023. He will be the second Executive Director to lead the MobilityData team. The interim position was taken by Elisabeth Poirier-Defoy, the Deputy Executive Director, since June 2022.
